承上启下——在东方智慧之中，重构当代生活

Bridging Heritage and the Contemporary — Reconstructing Modern Life through Eastern Wisdom

朱周空间设计在今年设计盛事—设计上海，以“承上启下”为核心，将「上下」展位设计从东方智慧中提炼空间秩序，回应传统在当代生活中的延续与生长。

At this year’s Design Shanghai, Vermilion Zhou Design Group designed the SHANG XIA booth around the concept of “Bridging Heritage and the Contemporary,” distilling spatial order from Eastern wisdom to respond to the continuity and growth of tradition within contemporary life.

本届设计上海以“永续之上：与自然共生的设计之道”为主题，将“天人合一”的东方智慧重新置入当代语境。在我们看来，这一命题不应停留于风格层面的回应，而应回到结构本身。

Under the theme “Beyond Sustainability: Designing with Nature,” this year’s Design Shanghai brings the philosophy of the unity between humanity and nature back into a contemporary context. In our view, this proposition should not remain a stylistic response, but return to structure itself.

对「上下」而言，核心不在单一工艺或单件作品，而在于传统与当代、手工与设计之间，如何建立一种持续生长的关系。所谓“承上启下”，“上”是非遗与手工艺所承载的时间积累，“下”是当代设计语言与生活方式的转译能力；关键不在并置，而在秩序。

For SHANG XIA, the essence lies not in a single craft or object, but in how tradition and the contemporary, craftsmanship and design, may sustain a relationship of continuous growth. “Heritage” refers to the accumulated value of intangible cultural heritage and handcraft over time, while “the contemporary” refers to the ability of design language and modern lifestyles to reinterpret and carry this legacy forward. What matters is not juxtaposition, but order.

因此，本次展位并不以场景模拟东方，而是以空间逻辑回应东方。我们将蛋壳漆、竹刻、大漆等非遗工艺置于核心位置，当代家具、家居与饰品围绕展开，通过重复、阵列与抬升，建立清晰而克制的观看秩序。独立展示亭则如同一件精神装置，在展场中以纯粹形成焦点。

For this reason, the booth does not describe the East through scenographic settings, but expresses it through spatial logic. Traditional crafts such as eggshell lacquer,bamboo marquetry, and lacquerwork are placed at the core, while contemporary furniture and objects unfold around them. Through repetition, arrangement, and elevation, the spaceestablishes a viewing order that is clear, restrained, and focused. The independent display pavilion is conceived as a spiritual installation, creating a focal point through purity within the exhibition environment.

我们希望通过这次实践回应一种东方的方法：尊重自然的节律，尊重时间的沉淀，也让传统在当代继续生长。

Through this project, we hope to respond to an Eastern way of thinking: to respect the rhythms of nature, the accumulation of time, and to allow tradition to continue growing in contemporary life.
